Catholic Charities Food for Seniors is the sole agency of Louisiana’s Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) which works to improve the health of low-income elderly persons at least 60 years of age by supplementing their diets with nutritious USDA Foods. The program also educates clients about good nutrition by providing nutritional information that includes easy to make recipes using commodity foods, caloric intake, how to stretch food dollars and eat a healthy diet. Every stop the Silver Rose makes throughout the pilgrimage is a rosary-centered occasion for Knights, parishioners and community members to pray for respect for life, for the spiritual renewal of each nation, and for the advancement of the message of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Brother Martin High School Open House 2025 Brother Martin High School's Open House for the 2025-2026 school year is scheduled for Thursday, November 6th from 4-7 PM. This event will include a School Day Tour and Information Night, providing prospective students and their parents with the opportunity to meet with current students, faculty members, and school administrators. The event aims to discuss the college-prep curriculum, extracurricular clubs, athletic teams, and the admissions process for the 8th and 9th grades. It is a crucial part of the high school admissions process, allowing students to feel and witness the difference at Brother Martin.

Exorcised salt, used for spiritual protection of individuals and homes, is salt that has been blessed by a priest to ward off evil, sin, sickness, and demonic influence. The container of exorcised salt, a sacramental, is located under the bell tower in the area to the left of the Sanctuary. It is free for the taking; but, please remember to bring your own container.

Catholic Charities’ food pantry is open Monday – Thursday from 10 am – 2 pm. The food pantry is located at 2505 Maine Ave in Metairie. Clients should go down the driveway to the left of the building. The food pantry is located in the back building, fourth door from the front. Clients can receive a pre-packed bag of food and some optional supplemental items every two weeks. Clients fill out a simple intake form at their first visit, and at subsequent visits only need provide their name.

There will be a Rosary Rally at St Anthony Church on October 11, 2025 at Noon in the Church asking for the intercession of our Blessed Mother in regards to solving America's problems. This is an Annual Rosary Rally that will be celebrated throughout the United States at the same time so that we will all be in prayer together asking for God's help through Mary's intercession and the intercession of all our brothers and sisters.

On Saturday October 18, 2024, there will be a Communal Celebration of the Anointing of the Sick at the 8:30 AM Mass at St Anthony in honor of St Luke, Patron Saint of Physicians. The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is both “a liturgical and a communal celebration.” In the family home, hospital, or church, members of the Body of Christ gather for the sacramental rite led by a priest. The Penitential Rite followed by the Liturgy of the Word and sacramental anointing of the sick can inspire and comfort both those who are ill and their family and friends who are gathered (CCC, nos. 1517-18). Many parishes have communal celebrations at which many persons receive the sacrament. These sacramental celebrations are a “source of strength amid pain and weakness, hope amid despair” and a “joyful encounter” for the entire community (Christifideles Laici, no. 54).

Each year, Manning Family Children's provides care to thousands of patients, regardless of his or her family’s ability to pay. Many of their patients fall below the poverty line and rely on Medicaid. They pride themselves on providing extraordinary healthcare to every child who walks through their doors. At Manning Family Children's, healthcare goes beyond medicine and is about caring for every child – and even their families – as a whole person. Unfortunately, many of their patient families come to Children's wearing just the clothes on their backs, often without a change of clothes or even a toothbrush. "An indulgence is a remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven, which the faithful Christian who is duly disposed gains under certain prescribed conditions through the action of the Church which, as the minister of redemption, dispenses and applies with authority the treasury of the satisfactions of Christ and the saints". To gain indulgences, whether plenary or partial, it is necessary that the faithful be in the state of grace at least at the time the indulgenced work is completed. A plenary indulgence can be gained only once a day. In order to obtain it, the faithful must, in addition to being in the state of grace: — have the interior disposition of complete detachment from sin, even venial sin; — have sacramentally confessed their sins; — receive the Holy Eucharist (it is certainly better to receive it while participating in Holy Mass, but for the indulgence only Holy Communion is required); — pray for the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff. It is appropriate, but not necessary, that the sacramental Confession and especially Holy Communion and the prayer for the Pope's intentions take place on the same day that the indulgenced work is performed; but it is sufficient that these sacred rites and prayers be carried out within several days (about 20) before or after the indulgenced act. Prayer for the Pope's intentions is left to the choice of the faithful, but an "Our Father" and a "Hail Mary" are suggested. One sacramental Confession suffices for several plenary indulgences, but a separate Holy Communion and a separate prayer for the Holy Father's intentions are required for each plenary indulgence. For the sake of those legitimately impeded, confessors can commute both the work prescribed and the conditions required (except, obviously, detachment from even venial sin). Indulgences can always be applied either to oneself or to the souls of the deceased, but they cannot be applied to other persons living on earth.

The Gretna Historical Society was founded in Gretna, Louisiana in 1969 by Lloyd E. Gomez (insurance man, volunteer firefighter, and community activist), who descended from Gretna pioneers, German immigrants Claudius and Catherine Nuss Strehle. The articles of incorporation for the GHS were drafted by Gretna attorney Everette F. Gauthreaux and signed in his law office on October 26, 1969. Today the GHS operates the Gretna Historical Society Museum Complex at the corner of Lafayette Street at 2nd. It consists of three 19th century Creole cottages, a blacksmith shop, and the Louisiana Fire Museum. The GHS also owns and maintains the caboose and train depot on Huey P. Long Avenue at 4th Street. There are no requirements for membership in the GHS, other than the timely payment of annual membership dues of $20 per person. Monthly meetings are held at the St Joseph's complex at the corner of Newton and 7th Streets, on the second Thursday of every month at 7:00 pm. Guests and prospective members are always welcome to attend the meetings. The society newsletter, Gretna Chronicles, is published monthly and mailed to its members.

There will be a Rosary Rally at St Anthony Church on October 11, 2025 at Noon in the Church asking for the intercession of our Blessed Mother in regards to solving America's problems. This is an Annual Rosary Rally that will be celebrated throughout the United States at the same time so that we will all be in prayer together asking for God's help through Mary's intercession and the intercession of all our brothers and sisters.

On Saturday October 18, 2024, there will be a Communal Celebration of the Anointing of the Sick at the 8:30 AM Mass at St Anthony in honor of St Luke, Patron Saint of Physicians. The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is both “a liturgical and a communal celebration.” In the family home, hospital, or church, members of the Body of Christ gather for the sacramental rite led by a priest. The Penitential Rite followed by the Liturgy of the Word and sacramental anointing of the sick can inspire and comfort both those who are ill and their family and friends who are gathered (CCC, nos. 1517-18). Many parishes have communal celebrations at which many persons receive the sacrament. These sacramental celebrations are a “source of strength amid pain and weakness, hope amid despair” and a “joyful encounter” for the entire community (Christifideles Laici, no. 54).

Each year, Manning Family Children's provides care to thousands of patients, regardless of his or her family’s ability to pay. Many of their patients fall below the poverty line and rely on Medicaid. They pride themselves on providing extraordinary healthcare to every child who walks through their doors. At Manning Family Children's, healthcare goes beyond medicine and is about caring for every child – and even their families – as a whole person. Unfortunately, many of their patient families come to Children's wearing just the clothes on their backs, often without a change of clothes or even a toothbrush. Rev. Toribio "Ives" Aniban, a Filipino-American priests who served in the Archdiocese of New Orleans, passed away last November 10, 2024 in his native province of Samar in the Philippines. Fr. Ives was Parochial Vicar at St. Anthony back in the late 1980s. The memorial for the late Rev. Toribio "Ives" Aniban will be November 10 at 6:30pm at St Anthony Church. There will be a simple repast after the mass in St Anthony's Cafeteria. Fr. Edsil Ortiz, the nephew of Fr Ives, will be the presider for the memorial mass of the late Rev. Toribio "Ives" Aniban. All are welcome to attend and pray for the repose of Fr Aniban and to share stories of his stay at St Anthony.

Rev. Toribio "Ives" Aniban, a Filipino-American priests who served in the Archdiocese of New Orleans, passed away last November 10, 2024 in his native province of Samar in the Philippines. Fr. Ives was Parochial Vicar at St. Anthony back in the late 1980s. The memorial for the late Rev. Toribio "Ives" Aniban will be November 10 at 6:30pm at St Anthony Church. There will be a simple repast after the mass in St Anthony's Cafeteria. Fr. Edsil Ortiz, the nephew of Fr Ives, will be the presider for the memorial mass of the late Rev. Toribio "Ives" Aniban. All are welcome to attend and pray for the repose of Fr Aniban and to share stories of his stay at St Anthony.

The Material Component is made up of the valuables, the possessions we leave behind. Legacy also invites us to consider church as family. How impactful is the church in our lives? All of our family’s big, most sacred events happen at church: baptism, marriage, last rites, and more. A legacy gift as a bequest through your will or by including the church as a beneficiary of your IRA or life insurance is a great way to honor the good the church does for us and our family. Come, Lord Jesus! is the fruit of many years of prayer, reflection on Sacred Scripture, and experimentation. This inspiring program is a complete study of the Sunday Readings, including Gospels (Be My Witness), Epistles(Love One Another) and the Old Testament(Give Glory to God) in three separate volumes. Following the Liturgical Calendar and utilizing the Catechism of the Catholic Church, members grow in sanctification through prayer, Scripture, Eucharist, and Christian community.

Food for Seniors provides monthly nutritional food boxes to seniors who are 60 years old or older and meet Federal Income Guidelines. Catholic Charities Food for Seniors is the sole agency of Louisiana’s Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) which works to improve the health of low-income elderly persons at least 60 years of age by supplementing their diets with nutritious USDA Foods. The program also educates clients about good nutrition by providing nutritional information that includes easy to make recipes using commodity foods, caloric intake, how to stretch food dollars and eat a healthy diet. Catholic Charities’ Food for Seniors is an equal opportunity program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals. Applications are available on-line.

Brother Martin High School Open House 2025 Brother Martin High School's Open House for the 2025-2026 school year is scheduled for Thursday, November 6th from 4-7 PM. This event will include a School Day Tour and Information Night, providing prospective students and their parents with the opportunity to meet with current students, faculty members, and school administrators. The event aims to discuss the college-prep curriculum, extracurricular clubs, athletic teams, and the admissions process for the 8th and 9th grades. It is a crucial part of the high school admissions process, allowing students to feel and witness the difference at Brother Martin.

Exorcised salt, used for spiritual protection of individuals and homes, is salt that has been blessed by a priest to ward off evil, sin, sickness, and demonic influence. The container of exorcised salt, a sacramental, is located under the bell tower in the area to the left of the Sanctuary. It is free for the taking; but, please remember to bring your own container.
